Getting the garden ready

The start of Spring often brings wind, rain, and lots of blossoming plants — all of which can cause huge issues for drains!

March is usually the month when we all start getting busy in the garden – preparing it for the better weather. When you’re out there, take some time to give your drains some TLC too, you’ll be thankful later that you did!

The petals and leaves that fall from the plants surrounding your property can easily find their way into gullies and external drains. If this organic material builds up, it can cause blockages in your pipes. Clear around your gullies to make sure things continue to flow smoothly.

Look at the pictures below to see what a difference it can make!

Be careful of roots and shoots

Roots from trees and shrubs can wreak havoc on your drains. They naturally seek out nutrients and moisture, which means drain lines are an ideal environment for them.

The image below shows how, if left unchecked, roots can block drain lines.

Take some time to check the area around any mature plants to make sure there’s no drains nearby.  If you’ve been having issues with your drains, including smells, frequent blockages or slow draining then roots could be the cause of the problem!

If you do suspect roots may be as issue, don’t worry, the TWC Draincare team can help.  Using specialist CCTV equipment they can quickly inspect your drain lines to see what’s going on inside and cut out any offending roots before they cause too much damage. If there is any damage, they can also advise on any necessary repairs, which doesn’t always mean excavation!

If you notice any standing water, foul odours, or slow drainage around your property, you can contact us 24/7, 365 on 0333 305 2243. You should also be cautious that Spring showers and windy days can also cause pipes to become loose if they have not been secured correctly, leading to leaks and potential flooding.
