What is World Water Day?
World Water Day is observed every year on March 22nd. The aim is to raise awareness around the world about the importance of using water responsibly.
More than 2.2 billion people across the globe are currently living without access to safe water — that is roughly ¼ of the total population!
Every year, World Water Day follows a specific theme — in 2025, this is ‘Glacier Preservation’. Glaciers are critical to our planet – their meltwater is vital to maintain a healthy ecosystem.
To preserve our glaciers, we all need to do our part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to reduce global warming. So, what does this mean for the team at TWC Draincare?
Maintain to Sustain
When it comes to drains, the issue is a simple but effective one. Maintain to Sustain. Regular maintenance work on your drains will prevent bigger problems later.
Follow the tips from our Draincare Diary to keep your drains in tip-top condition. These include:
- Keep your gullies and external drains clear from debris as this can cause blockages.
- Avoid putting food waste (including fat, oil and grease) down the sink as this can solidify in the lines, causing bad smells and blockages.
- Keep an eye on those plants. Shrubs and plants are beautiful and great for the environment but their roots can wreak havoc on your drains. Keeping on top of things will prevent them penetrating drain pipes causing cracks, fractures and even collapses.

When our engineers are out on the road, their most valuable resource is water. We don’t use harsh or caustic chemicals on drains as we recognise the problems these can cause. They can be harmful to the environment and take additional energy to process, which increases greenhouse gas emissions. We use the latest in drain technology (with our high-pressure water jetters and CCTV equipment) to clean drains the natural way.
What can you do to help?
We can all do our bit to help and support World Water Day 2025. Here’s some of our top tips for World Water Day!
- Wherever possible, avoid using strong chemicals to clean your drains. An enzyme drain cleaner can be very effective on organic clogs (like food waste, or hair in the shower drain), and is much less damaging for the environment.
- Try to reuse water as much as you can — for example, re-use the water left over when boiling vegetables to make a delicious stocks and gravy. Fit a water butt and use this to water the plants from the garden.
Ultimately, the best drain-advice we can give is ‘maintain to sustain’. Ensuring regular maintenance of your drains will prevent problems in the future.
