What is Energy Savers Week?
Observed on the third week of January every year, Energy Savers Week is a campaign that raises awareness of the importance of saving energy.
Many charities, businesses, and even government organisations like the Citizens Advice take part by sharing resources, highlighting fuel poverty, and suggesting ways to reduce energy bills.
The theme of Energy Savers Week 2025 is creating a winter heating checklist, to help you stay warm and spend less on your energy bills. The TWC Draincare team want to get involved in this worthwhile campaign by offering our perspective on conserving energy and water with draincare best practices.
Sustainable Draincare: Saving Energy and Money
There are many ways to optimise your drainage system for energy efficiency, which can help to save you money. For example, Citizens Advice suggests keeping your heating at the lowest comfortable temperature, but no lower than 18 degrees. We know that it can be tempting to turn the heating down and pile on the jumpers, but anything less than this suggested limit can lead to water freezing in your pipes. Ice expands rapidly in your drainage system, causing blockages or even breaks in the pipes, which can be costly and inconvenient to fix.
There are also plenty of ways to optimise the efficiency of the energy you are using — rather than draining away your hot bath water, leave it to cool down with the bathroom door open to allow excess heat to dissipate through your home. You can then use the cooled water to give your plants a drink.
